In 1878 the Newton Heath LYR Football Club was formed by the Carriage and Wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway depot at Newton Heath. Only on the 24th of April 1902 this club's name was changed to “Manchester United”, marking the beginning of their journey to greatness.
