The
Veldpond is one of the most unusual and beautiful collector’s coins ever minted in the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek (ZAR). A total of 986 of these coins were minted and only 106 have been graded.
These ZAR coins were minted with an improvised hand press in the fields of Pilgrim’s Rest due to a shortage of coins and the need to purchase provisions towards the end of the Anglo Boer War (1899-1902). The Veldpond coins were struck with only one pair of dies and the weight of these rare coins vary from 7,544 to 8,508 grams.
The
Veldpond was minted with the words “ZAR 1902” and on the reverse ”Een Pond”.
The Veldpond is one of the most sought-after historically important coins in the world. Contact The South African Gold Coin Exchange today by completing the form below or email
