World War 1 90th Anniversary 1/4oz Gold Coin

The World War 1 90th Anniversary 1/4oz Gold Coin pays tribute to those that sacrificed their lives during WWI. This 1/4oz commemorative gold coin has a limited mintage of 1,918  and was minted by the Perth Mint.

The coin was struck in 1/4oz of 99.99% pure gold in proof quality. The coin is presented in a red leather display case illustrated with an image of a poppy field. Each coin is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity featuring a similar poppy field image and the words to Colonel John McCrae’s poem in Flanders’ Fields.

 The World War 1 90th Anniversary 1/4oz Gold Coin’s reverse depicts a burial cross inscribed with the words “LEST WE FORGET” among red-coloured poppies – one of the most powerful symbols of remembrance for those lost in war. The design is surrounded by the words “90th ANNIVERSARY OF THE END OF WORLD WAR I 1918 -2008” and a representation of the 1904 Rising Sun badge featuring a scroll inscribed with the words “AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH MILITARY FORCES”. The coin’s reverse also features The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, first used in 1899. The coin depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
